It was last year end of July.. I tried out this feat of swimming 80 laps.. which is equivalent to 4 kilometres.
How I did it?
Two of the main things i brought for the training (i so called it training) were BCAA capsules and water.
BCAA stands for Branched-Chain Amino Acids which is an essential form of amino acid that our body requires for muscle growth. It can be taken before, during and after exercise. Most of the amino acids can be obtained from the food we eat, but our body would need to break it down before it really becomes amino acids to be absorbed by our muscle tissues for muscle growth. So if muscle growth is your goal.. BCAAs are a must.
First, I swam for 40 laps, then 20 laps, then another 20 laps.. which is 40-20-20. Total 80 laps. Its better to swim more at the beginning since you are fresh and have more strength and energy, so at the back it would not be too tiring. You've already covered most of it - 40 laps, half of it.
Each interval i would take a break.. which means after the first 40 laps i took a break and after another 20 laps i took a break. Each break would be around 3-5 mins; I would have one BCAA, drink some water and also do some stretching exercises to loosen up my muscles. By loosening up my muscles, my body would not be so tense up and hence also reduced the chances of getting leg cramps or any muscle cramps. Hence, I took one BCAA at the start, two in between and one at the last after i completed the 80 laps.. so in total i took about 4 BCAAs. You can have more if you want.
The stroke i used thru' out was breast stroke. If i'm not wrong, it took me about 3-4 hours to complete the whole course. Be it fast or slow it does not matter, most importantly you've completed the whole thing. Its really fulfilling and something that i've never done before.. and i did it! I was really an experience!
One shall push your limits.. you wouldn't know you actually can do it until you do so!
This applies to many things in our daily life~!
